Week 3 of “America and the Bible” Series

This series continues with Week 3 tomorrow, Sunday, October 10th at 4:30pm! Just to recap, this series will continue to explore the influence and impact of the founding spiritual principles of our nation. An overview of the complete series is on our Special Events page.

We would love to have you join us! You do not need to regularly attend our church, nor are there any collections taken. Sundays at 4:30pm, Monday through Friday at 7:30pm. Each meeting of the series lasts approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

Here is a brief summary of what is expected to be covered this third week.

Week 3

Uncle Tom’s Cabin

When President Abraham Lincoln met Harriet Beecher Stowe he said, “So this is the little lady who made this big war!” Mrs. Stowe may have been small in stature, but her book was monumental in importance. The fact that she wrote about the Christian Uncle Tom being brutally treated, and yet responding to all his mistreatment with Christ-like patience and love, only added to the sympathy her book created, a sympathy that had a direct impact on the abolishing of slavery in this country.

Joshua Chamberlain

With the entire future of the United States in the balance, the man who helped win the most important battle of the Civil War was a classics teacher from a university in Maine, a Christian named Joshua Chamberlain. What he did on Little Round Top as he led the 20th Maine Regiment is the stuff of legends.

Dwight Moody

There were no televisions and no electronic media. Yet this “unlearned” former shoe salesman from Boston, MA, reached 100,000,000 people with the Gospel of Christ.

President Harry Truman and Israel

William Eugene Blackstone, William Hechler, Lloyd George, Arthur Balfour, Harry Truman – none of those men were Jewish, yet all played a huge role in the link forged between this nation and Israel. And for many of them, it was the Bible that influenced them the most.

The Space Race

It was estimated that one billion people, (a quarter of the Earth’s population and the largest world-wide TV audience in history), watched and listened as Neil Armstrong announced that the Eagle had landed. You may be surprised to hear about the perspective of many of the men who walked on the moon. That is part of what we will consider in this meeting.

President Ronald Reagan and the Cold War

Two books played a huge role in shaping the thinking of President Ronald Reagan. One of those books was the Bible. In this meeting we will see why that was and also learn what the second book was.
